For as long as I can remember, my goal was simple: retire early.
Like many in Generation X, I quickly realized the traditional "three-legged stool" of retirement—a pension, personal savings, and Social Security—was already broken. The old rules no longer applied, and a predictable path to financial freedom simply didn't exist. So, I had to forge a new one.
My journey was filled with hard-won, expensive lessons. I survived the chaos of the dot-com bust, where I was laid off with little savings . Years later, a $25,000 investment in a cannabis startup collapsed. I even learned the hard way that investing in a music business is fundamentally different from profiting from the music itself, after a passion project was upended by a global pandemic .
But after navigating these varied ventures, I finally began to explore a solution. I discovered an asset class that was understandable, data-driven, genuinely passive, and completely uncorrelated to the day-to-day chaos of the stock market. It was, at last, the antidote I had been searching for.
For the past several years, I have gone deep into this world—not just as an investor, but as a student of the entire industry. I've interviewed the CEOs of the leading platforms and built a thriving community of fellow investors. I developed a rigorous framework for analyzing and managing these assets for myself.
